How to Get Your ARC in Busan
The ARC (Alien Registration Card, 외국인등록증) is your ID card in Korea. You need it for your bank, your phone plan and part-time work. Here is how to get it in Busan.
When
If you stay in Korea longer than 90 days, you must register within 90 days of arrival. Late registration can mean a fine, so start in your first couple of weeks.
Where
Students in Busan go to the Busan Immigration Office (부산출입국·외국인청) in Jung-gu. Students living in Gimhae may use the Gimhae branch. Check the exact address on HiKorea or call 1345 before you go.
Ask your university first. Some Busan universities collect applications and submit them as a group. You still visit immigration once for fingerprints.
Book a visit
If you apply on your own, you need a reservation on HiKorea, usually at least one day before. Print your reservation receipt.
What to bring
- Application form (available at the office or on HiKorea)
- Passport
- One color photo, 3.5 × 4.5 cm, white background, taken within the last 6 months
- Certificate of enrollment from your university
- Proof of address: lease contract or dorm residence confirmation
- Fee: KRW 35,000 (since January 2025)
- TB test certificate, if your university or the office asks for it
How long does it take?
Usually around two weeks, sometimes longer in busy months like March and September. Keep your application receipt with your passport while you wait, and ask the officer what you can use it for.
After you get it
- Upgrade your bank account and phone plan.
- Check the expiry date. Apply to extend your stay before it ends.
- If you move, report your new address within 15 days.
